Her interdisciplinary educational pursuits extend across psychology, educational leadership, medicinal plant science, naturopathic medicine, and other areas of human development and wellness. Guided by an insatiable curiosity and a desire to understand the interconnectedness of life, she continues to expand her knowledge across disciplines that bridge science, education, human behavior, and the natural world.

Her passion for botanical sciences and the relationship between plants, human health, and environmental sustainability inspired further studies in horticulture, ethnobotany, plant physiology, biotechnology, plant pathology, and entomology. These disciplines have enriched her understanding of botanical systems, plant genetics, cultivation practices, traditional plant knowledge, ecological relationships, and sustainable agriculture. This multidisciplinary foundation continues to shape her independent research, educational initiatives, and exploration of the potential contributions of botanical science to holistic wellness and environmental sustainability.

At just 25 years old, Dr. Esson transitioned from corporate America following professional experience with General Motors and a major national grocery retailer. Motivated by a desire for greater independence, creativity, and purposeful living, she pursued entrepreneurship, successfully establishing an advertising agency and online boutique. These ventures allowed her to apply her expertise in marketing, business development, strategic planning, and organizational leadership while cultivating the freedom to pursue her broader personal and philanthropic aspirations.

At the age of 27, Dr. Esson embraced a deeper calling to dedicate her life to philanthropy, humanitarian service, and community empowerment. She founded Healthy Synergy Nonprofit Corporation and the Merica Esson Foundation, establishing a philanthropic foundation for initiatives centered on education, youth development, personal growth, community enrichment, and compassionate outreach. Her organizations reflect a commitment to creating opportunities, encouraging self-sufficiency, and helping individuals develop the knowledge, confidence, and resources necessary to pursue meaningful and fulfilling lives.

Her philanthropic vision has since expanded to include Eden, a faith-centered holistic wellness and sustainable living sanctuary inspired by biblical principles of stewardship, restoration, peace, and harmony with God's creation. Envisioned as a tranquil refuge surrounded by nature, Eden represents the integration of spiritual renewal, personal restoration, botanical exploration, sustainable practices, and intentional living. Through this deeply personal vision, Dr. Esson seeks to cultivate an environment that honors God, encourages holistic well-being, and demonstrates the beauty of living in greater harmony with the natural world.

An accomplished global traveler, Dr. Esson has explored all seven continents, gaining a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity, global perspectives, and the shared human experience. Her commitment to service and international engagement has been recognized through the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024 and her designation as an Antarctic Ambassador in 2025.
